May 2005 – March 2015

After university I entered into the design industry with Design Hive, where I spend almost 10 years from 2005-2015.

A creative agency that taught me all aspects of design. From the initial brief all the way to the final design and production. Being taught more about typography, layout, concept thinking, presenting, business, software and project management skills.

A agency who took pride and great attention to detail in our work, I was always taught how to artwork designs the correct way, clean and tidy with attention to detail and setting all artwork up for a smooth transition for print. In my time I learnt a great deal, enhancing my previous knowledge taking me a to a professional level with in-depth knowledge of design and the software. Moving from a junior into a senior level designer, within my time there.

I always used the latest computer software to produce a variety of design work from initial concepts through to it’s final production, gaining ten years solid experience in areas such as packaging design and artworking, brochure, brand identity, posters, leaflets, advertising materials, POS and exhibitions.

Below is a range of tasks and experience within my role.

Producing a large array of creative print for a variety of clients from within the gardening, dentistry, lifestyle, medical, retail and charity sectors.

Working with one of the biggest brands in the gardening sector, UK and international work.

Meeting with and developing professional relationships with clients to discuss job objectives and requirements and continue liaisons to ensure initial concepts and ideas are developed to the full.

Taking responsibility of my own projects from start to finish, alongside producing projects as a team.

Creating designs, artwork and promotional materials for shows such as Chelsea Flower Show and Glee exhibitions and several other gardening campaigns.

Rebranding packaging campaigns for major clients including Miracle-Gro, EverGreen and a variety of Scotts brands and products.

Liaising and creating good relationships with suppliers and printers.

BA Graphical Communication 3D Branding and Packaging

After my two years at college I attended The University of Surrey Institute of Art and Design – Farnham from 2001-2004, having accumulated enough grade points to go straight onto the degree course.

I studied what the original course was called packaging design (later changed to Graphical Communication 3D Branding and Packaging) for three years. Achieving a high 2:1 degree.

In my time the course was split up into various 6 weeks projects, achieving A grades in most. This consisted of taking a brief from concept to completion. Starting with research, then the brand name and design of the identity, the structure design of the product, the graphics cutter guide to go on the structure, the graphics and design to go onto that, produce the final product in the workshop, create POS and advertising material to support the product. A presentation was then created and presented to piers and teachers to promote and explain the new product and design.

Each project was for a range of different consumer and target audience. For children, teenagers, middle age and the older generation as well as different sectors, such as health and beauty, food, drinks, services, fitness, FMCG, washing products – so a good variety of projects and experiences.

I produced work for competitions such as YCN, D&AD and live projects, which I received an award for a Milk product that I designed from YCN and an award for a children’s healthy take away range.

A good three years gaining a great deal of experience in all elements of the design process, being fully creative, developing scamp and computer skills as well as presentation skills, which put me in good frame and position for the future.

A Levels – Graphic Design, Graphical Communication, Geography and General Studies

After Art at school, I proceeded with my design career by attending Farnborough Sixth Form College from 1999-2001, Studying A-Levels in Graphic Design, Graphical Communication, Geography and General Studies.

This provided me with a range of stills from technical drawings, CAD, Architecture, Frameworks and overall technical design. Graphic design knowledge of all aspects of design, from packaging to brochures and advertising material, Typography, layout and computer skills along with presentation techniques. Achieving high B grades in my design work.
